Welcome to CatHerd ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy while you organize group gatherings and adventures, which we call Roundups. We understand how difficult it can be to herd cats, and we are here to assist you. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and our website hosted at CatHerd.app.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your name and email address. We also allow editing of your name and uploading of a profile picture. Preferably something funny but also clearly identifying you.
Location Data: To power our shared map feature, CatHerd requests access to your device's precise geolocation data. This location data is only collected and shared with your designated group ("Herd") when an active Roundup is in progress and when you have explicitly enabled tracking. You can disable location access at any time through your device settings.
User Content: We temporarily process and store the messages, images, calendar events, and checklist items you generate within your private groups to display them to your group members.
Device Information: We collect standard technical data, including your IP address, device type, and operating system version, to ensure app stability and performance.
Purchase Information: We record what you have bought and what you are entitled to — how many Roundup creations you have left and whether you have an active subscription — linked to your email address. We never see or store your card details.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your data to:
Facilitate live tracking, scheduling, planning, and communication between you and your Herd.
Maintain, secure, and improve the CatHerd application performance.
Comply with legal obligations and enforce our community safety guidelines.
3. Data Sharing and Retention
With Other Users: Your real-time location, chat messages, and planning inputs are visible only to users within the specific Roundups you accept.
With Third Parties: We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal or location data to third-party advertisers. We only share data with essential infrastructure providers (like secure cloud hosting and map layout services) necessary to run the app.
Data Deletion: Location logs are cleared or anonymized shortly after a Roundup concludes. You can request permanent account and data deletion at any time through the app or via the web form here. Deletion takes effect after 30 days, during which you can cancel it by signing in again; after that your account and its data are permanently removed.
4. Payments
Creating a Roundup is the only paid feature in CatHerd. How your payment is handled depends on where you buy it:
In the Android or iOS apps, purchases are processed by Google Play and the App Store under their own privacy policies. They handle your payment details; we never receive them.
On our website, we sell to you directly, and payment is processed on our behalf by Stripe through RevenueCat Billing. You enter your card details with Stripe, not with us, and Stripe handles them under its own privacy policy. CatHerd never receives, sees or stores your card number.
We use RevenueCat to manage purchases across platforms. So that your purchases follow your account rather than a single device, CatHerd identifies you to RevenueCat by your email address when you sign in — this happens for everyone using CatHerd, not only people who buy something. RevenueCat also receives the details of any purchase you make, and tells CatHerd what you are entitled to. RevenueCat is a US-based service and processes this data on our behalf.
What we store is only the outcome: how many Roundup creations you have left, whether your subscription is active, and a record of the purchases and grants applied to your account.
